About the project

The Crookwell 3 Wind Farm is an approved 16 turbine wind farm project planned for construction in the NSW Southern Tablelands  approximately 17km south-east of Crookwell township, 25km north-west of Goulburn, and 90km north-east of Canberra, within the Upper Lachlan Shire Council Local Government Area.

The project was approved 14 October 2020 for 16 wind turbines with a maximum blade tip height of up to 157 metres, and a total project capacity of approximately 50MW. Energy produced will connect to the grid via the Crookwell 2 wind farm terminal station which in turn connects through a 330kV Transmission Line system.

The project covers an area of approximately 1,100 ha owned by two landholders and used primarily for agricultural (grazing) activities which will  be able to continue with operation of the wind farm.

The project is considered the 2nd stage of the Crookwell 2 wind farm, also owned and operated by GPG.

Planning History

An application for Crookwell 3 was submitted to the NSW Department of Planning in 2010, and refined in response to community and stakeholder feedback  In 2016, a revised project for 23 turbines was submitted and progressed through Planning assessment, IPC determination and GPG appeal.  On 14 October 2020, following an agreement reached during conciliation process, the NSW Land and Environment court approved a refined project with 16 turbines located solely to the east of the existing Crookwell 2 wind farm

The approval permit  for the approved 16 turbine Wind Farm are available here: Permit document

Information documenting the planning process is available at the  NSW Planning Portal

What is happening now?

Following the approval of the Crookwell 3 project on 14 October 2020, GPG’s current activities include:

On July 21 Telstra and Naturgy, through its international power generation subsidiary Global Power Generation (GPG), have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA). Under the long-term PPA, Telstra has committed to procure 80% of the energy generated by the wind farm. For more details refer to the press release saved in project documents.

On July 21, Decmil Group Limited & RJE have been awarded the contract to deliver Civil and Electrical Balance of Plant (BOP).

On July 21, Vestas has won the contract for Turbine Supply and Assembly (TSA) and Operation & Maintenance (O&M). Vestas is to install 16 V126-3.6MW wind turbines and to maintain them over a 15-year period.

Finalizing Pre-construction commitments.

Updating neighbors and stakeholders on project status.

Crookwell 3 Wind Farm Construction start expected for Q4 2021.
